SESSION BEGINS FOR TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

The second session of the 105th Tennessee General Assembly convened Tuesday, January 8th. The Senate is evenly divided with 16 Republicans, 16 Democrats, and one Independent. The House has 53 Democrats and 46 Republicans. All 99 House members and half of the Senate members will be up for election this fall. 

With elections coming up, adjournment will likely be early May. The election year will also bring the opportunity for each party to turn public attention to issues that could help them win elections. Immigration, sales taxes and minimum wage will be hot button issues during the election year session.
