Tennessee Grocers Education Foundation

The Tennessee Grocers Education Foundation was established in 1982 for the purpose of providing scholarships and promoting education through the food industry in Tennessee. Click here to learn more about the foundation.

The Tennessee grocery industry has had strong interest in supporting education by granting scholarships to students to help with tuition and other college expenses. TGCSA members and member's children who are graduating high school seniors, college students or graduate students are eligible for scholarships through the education foundation each year.

In 2009 TGEF awarded 141 scholarships worth a total of $171,900.

On April 16, 2009, the Foundation inducted Rick Hardesty, Lewis Brothers Bakeries, into its prestigious Hall of Eagles.

This annual event honors leaders in the Tennessee food industry and recognizes contributions made to the scholarship fund. To learn more about this distinguished honor click here.

Each year TGCSA member stores across the state conduct in-store competitions and send their winners to the TGCSA statewide best bagger competition at the annual convention. First place winner receives a $1,000 scholarship and a trip to the national competition at the National Grocers Association (NGA) convention. Second place winner receives a $600 scholarship.

Colby will received a $750 scholarship from TGEF, $250 cash from NGA and
will compete in the national competition at the 2011 NGA convention.
