ENDOWED AWARDS:
STATE=Statewide competition
Charles Edwards Chairman's Award
One (1) $1,000 scholarship award to an advanced student majoring or business administration. Provided through an endowment bequeathed by Quaker Instant Oatmeal. STATE
Compton Family Scholarship Fund
Two (2) $1,400 scholarship awards. One to a student employee or child of an employee of Compton's for tuition or fees to any 501(c)3 non-profit educational foundation. One to a student employee of a middle division Tennessee Grocer & Convenience Store Association (TGCSA) retail member firm. Provided through an endowment bequeathed by Larry Compton and Compton family memorial gifts. STATE
The Ed Shull Diversity Scholarship
One (1) $1,000 scholarship awarded to an ethnic minority student employee or child of an ethnic minority employee of a TGCSA member firm. In the absence of a qualified candidate, the scholarship will be carried to the following year. Provided through an endowment by The Quaker Oats Company.
Eddie McMillan Community Service Award
One (1) $1,500 scholarship awarded to a student employee or a child of an employee of TGCSA member firm in the East Tennessee grand division. The principle criterion for selection will be the student's service to their community.
H. Dean Dickey Founders Award
One (1) $1,200 scholarship awarded to a child of an employee of a TGCSA member firm to be used in the student's junior or senior year in their pursuit of a degree in business administration or marketing. STATE
Jimmy Ragland Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships awarded to employees or children of employees of C.B. Ragland Company: $750 for a technical vocational school, $1,000 for a community college, $1,500 for a junior college, $2,000 for a state university, $4,000 for a four-year private university and $7,000 for a graduate level program. Total awards not to exceed $8,000 for the 2008-2009 academic year.
La'Shanna Trout Memorial Scholarship
One (1) $1,500 "Best All-Round Student" scholarship awarded to a Food City student associate or child of a Food City associate. Award provided through an endowment, funded in part by memorial contributions made to Tennessee Grocers Education Foundation.
Jack & Jewell "Judy" Smith Memorial Scholarship
Four (4) $1,350 scholarships awarded to Food City student associates or children of Food City associates. Awards provided through and endowment, funded in part by memorial contributions made to Tennessee Grocers Education Foundation.
Smith & Woods Management
Two (2) $1,200 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of Smith & Woods Management Corporation.
TGEF Memorial Scholarship Award
Three (3) $1,000 scholarships to students who parents were employed by a TGCSA member firm, and are now retired or deceased. In the absence of sufficient qualified candidates, the scholarships will be awarded to "Best All-Round Student" employees or children of employees of any TGCSA member firm. Awards provided through an endowment, funded in part by memorial contributions made to Tennessee Grocers Education Foundation. STATE
Theron & Marie McCool Memorial Scholarship
One (1) $700 scholarship awarded to the National Exchange Club Youth of the Year.
Walter Johnson Memorial/TWGA Award
One (1) $1,750 scholarship awarded to a child of an employee of a member wholesale organization. STATE
Zuma Richardson Memorial Award
One (1) $1,250 scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of American Consumer's Shop Rite stores.
GRADUATE LEVEL AWARD
Wesley Ball Fellowship Award
Two (2) $1,400 awards: For tuition and fees for part-time or full-time students in graduate study, available to student employees or children of employees of a TGCSA member firm. Applicant must hold a bachelor's degree and be working towards a master's degree or doctorate. STATE
SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDS:
Cliff Marshall Sr. Memorial Scholarships
Designed to recognize the "Best All-Round Student."
Two (2) $1,500 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of Marshall Family Enterprise employees.
One (1) $1,500 scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of Alliance Marketing retail group member.
One (1) $1,500 scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of a TGCSA member firm at large. STATE
Golden Flake Snack Foods
Two (2) $1,250 scholarships awarded to children or employees or student employees of a TGCSA member firm. STATE
N.A.M.R. Awards
Three (3) awards: one $1,500, one $1,250 and one $750 to student employees or children of employees of a N.A.M.R. member firm. A scholarship applicant can only win a total of two (2) N.A.M.R. awards; one per academic year.
Norman & LaNelle Wade Memorial Scholarship
One (1) $1,000 scholarship awarded to an outstanding senior from Meigs County High School.
Oney J. & Adele H. Naifeh Award
Three (3) $1,000 one-year awards to outstanding graduating seniors from Covington High School, Munford High School and Brighton High School. Winners are required to attend a Tennessee college or university.
P.A. Turner Memorial Awards
Five (5) $1,100 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of Turner Dairies or employees of their wholesale customers. STATE
Purity Dairies Scholarship Fund
Twenty-Five (25) $1,200 scholarships awarded to student employees and children of Purity Dairy employees.
SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIPS:
Coca-Cola Enterprises
One (1) $500 scholarship award to a child of an employee of an eastern division TGCSA retail member.
TGCSA SCHOLARSHIPS:
Three (3) $1,800 One-Year Quaker Oats Awards STATE
One (1) Eastern Tennessee Division.
One (1) Middle Tennessee Division.
One (1) West Tennessee Division.
Twenty-One (21) TGCSA Awards
Seven (7) $1,200 scholarships per grand division. Sponsored by Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association. STATE
Best Bagger Award STATE
One (1) $1,000 scholarship ($750 from TGCSA and $250 from NGA) awarded to first place winner of the Annual Best Bagger Competition.
One (1) $600 scholarship awarded to the runner-up.

E.W. James Memorial Awards
Two (2) $1,200 four-year scholarships awarded to children or spouses of E.W. James & Sons full-time employees. In the absence of a qualified candidate, a one-year $1,200 award will be given to a student employee of E.W. James & Sons.
Wayne Cagle Memorial Scholarship
One (1) $1,200 scholarship awarded to children or spouses of an E.W. James & Sons full-time employee. In the absence of a qualified candidate, a one-year $1,200 award will be given to a student employee of E.W. James & Sons.
One-Year Awards
Alliance Marketing Awards
Two (2) $1,000 "Non-Traditional Student" scholarships awarded to student employees of TGCSA member firm.
C. Earl Ogle, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
One (1) $1,500 "Best All-Round Student" scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of Parkway Market.
Country Delite Farms
Two (2) $1,000 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of Country Delite Farms.
Dyer Foods, Inc./Food Rite Stores Awards
Two (2) $1,000 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of Dyer Foods who have been employed for at least six months as of January 1, 2008.
Food City Awards
Four (4) $1,250 scholarships awarded to student associates or children of associates of Food City Operations in Tennessee or Virginia.
The H.G. Hill Jr. Memorial Scholarship Awards
Three (3) $1,200 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of H.G. Hill Company.
The L.P. Shanks Company Scholarship Award
Scholarships awarded to employees or children of employees of L.P. Shanks Company based on financial need: $750 for a technical vocational school, $1,000 for a community college, $1,500 for a junior college and $2,000 for a state or private university. Total awards not to exceed $6,000 for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Mayfield Dairy Farms Scholarship Fund
Five (5) $1,000 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of Mayfield Dairy Farm employees.
Purity Dairies
Two (2) $1,000 scholarships awarded to student employees or children of employees of a TGCSA member firm. STATE
Reese Group Scholarship
One (1) $1,000 "Best All-Round Student" scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of any one of the five stores owned and operated by the Reese family.
S & C Foods, Inc.
One (1) $1,500 scholarship awarded to a student employee or a child of an employee of S & C Foods Inc.
United Grocery Outlet
One (1) $1,200 scholarship awarded to a student employee or child of an employee of United Grocery Outlet.
PARTICIPATION BONUS
Four (4) scholarship winners will be randomly selected to receive an additional $500 bonus for participation in the annual convention. Winners must be present at the scholarship awards program and the Best Bagger Competition Sunday April 20, 2008.
